Questions

What artists ask first.

The artist's name, the artwork's title, year, medium and dimensions, an edition number if it's one of several, a unique certificate number, the date, and the artist's signature. Many artists add a short statement confirming the work is original and a photo of the piece.

It isn't required by law, but collectors increasingly expect one, especially for originals and limited editions. It documents that the work is genuine and starts its provenance, the record of who has owned it, which protects its value if it's ever resold.

Yes, which is why a plain certificate is only as trustworthy as the paper it's printed on. A certificate that can be verified online is much harder to fake. Every Brushly certificate carries a QR code that opens a public verification page showing the artwork and its ownership transfer history.

Print it and sign it by hand in ink, ideally with the same signature you use on the artwork. Keep a copy, or at least a record of the certificate number, with your own records.
